Skene et al. Subbottom Profiling, Surface Sediment Sampling, Vibracoring and Mapping with Sidescan and Multibeam Sonar Systems in the Fitzroy River Estuary and Keppel Bay. Milestone Report CG04.01 (3 MB PDF). Darren Skene, David Ryan and Brendan Brooke. Geoscience Australia (November 2004)

Field surveys investigating the surface and subsurface sedimentary environments of Keppel Bay and the Fitzroy River estuary were undertaken in June, August and September 2004. The first was the 3.5 kHz acoustic subbottom profiling survey in June, 2004. The second was a surface sediment sampling and vibracoring programme conducted in August-September 2004, and the third was a sidescan and multibeam sonar survey and associated sampling, carried out in September 2004. The goals of this work are to integrate surface and subsurface acoustic data (subbottom, sidescan, single beam echosounder and multibeam sonar), and sediment data to better identify the physical characteristic of the seabed in Keppel Bay and the Fitzroy Estuary. The following report describes the fieldwork undertaken and provides some initial results.
